When people die, it is natural for others to comfort those who had suffered the loss. When Beckendorf died, the whole camp was sad, everybody felt his loss. But everybody didn't need comforting. So those least effected flocked to Silena, offering comfort, a shoulder to cry on, and all the other generic things people do for those who lose someone.

But no one bothered to comfort Beckendorf's three siblings. They were left to comfort each other. When Percy brought the news of Beckendorf's death to the camp, the two youngest in the cabin, Eddie, and Hephaestus's only daughter, Nyssa both started crying into each other's shoulders.

The oldest Jake, still numb with the news, was thrown into the world of Camp Half-Blood councilors. He had no idea what any of the plans were beyond what Beckendorf had told him, he had no leadership experience, and ultimately no desire to lead anyone.  He wasn't given time to grieve, he had plans to learn and traps to set.

Everyone was too busy comforting the beautiful, distressed, daughter of Aphrodite, they forgot there were other people closer to Beckendorf than she was. He had siblings, only three, was it too much for them be acknowledged?

You could say everyone was too busy preparing for war, but even the hero, Percy Jackson had time to comfort Silena. But no time to comfort Jake, Eddie, or Nyssa ("I doubt he even knows our names!")

As every one gathered to watch the metal shroud (that they tearfully constructed) burn, they were all looking at the daughter of Aphrodite, not sparing a sympathetic passing glance at the Hephaestus cabin. Not even as they lay the shroud in the fire.
That wasn’t too good, but I wanted to write it. I was thinking about how when Beckendorf died, everyone seemed to be comforting Silena, but did anyone give a damn about his siblings? In fact it was like, “Hey, Jake, your brother just exploded, so now you have to come and lead people into war. But it’s okay Silena, you can go on a cry.” I’m not a Silena hater, she is one of my favorites, but I think the Hephaestus cabin deserves some attention too.
PS: It was stated later in the Last Olympian that there were three children of Hephaestus fighting in the war (this was after Beckendorf died) but only Nyssa and Jake were mentioned being around during the war, so Eddie is just hastily made OC.
